The European Association for Osseointegration(EAO) is organising its 20th annual scientific meeting next month. The congress will take place from 12 to 15 October 2011 in Athens at the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre. The overall theme of the four day congress is treatment planning in implant dentistry. More than 3,000 dentists, implant specialists, and researchers from around the world will attend.

The Programme
“This year's conference will focus on the importance of treatment planning,” say EAO Chairmen of the Scientific Committee, Professor Friedrich Neukam, Germany and Professor Asterios Doukoudakis, Greece. The four day congress focuses on science related to implant dentistry, paying special attention to updated knowledge relevant for practitioners. Leading experts will make presentations on topics ranging from avoiding and managing complications, to risk indicators, loading and treatment protocols and outcome predictability. According to Professor Neukam, implant dentistry has evolved at a fast pace. “Matching patients' expectations and wishes to the latest 'state of the art' outcomes has become a challenge in itself. Hence, treatment planning is an essential step prior to any patient's treatment. It is crucial to accurately define the goals and the most suitable treatment beforehand. Moreover, this facilitates clinicians' efforts to maximise quality management and clinical outcomes.” To provide answers, the EAO is bringing together some of the world's leading scientific experts to provide guidelines and give advice based on evidence from research. A world-class faculty of more than 80 speakers and chairs are participating. A large number of plenary sessions, parallel sessions and master classes will meet every delegate's expectations. Topics include risk indicators for implant therapy, clinical guidelines, predictability of aesthetic outcomes and long-term predictability. Of more than 500 abstract submissions for the Congress, a total of 493 will be presented as posters. In addition, abstracts have been selected for short oral communications as well as the EAO Research Prize Competition in Clinical Research as well as the EAO Research Prize Competition in Basic Research. The EAO main sponsors will host satellite industry symposia, bringing forward their renowned experiences in their area of expertise. “Hence, we believe the EAO Congress offers a wonderful opportunity for dentists to enhance their knowledge of implant dentistry. The delegates can listen to experts who have already gone through all the relevant literature for them and who are in the best position to offer guidance, suggestions or techniques without commercial bias,” states Professor Neukam. Alongside the Congress is one of Europe's biggest implant dentistry trade exhibitions. The world's leading companies are represented with nearly 90 stands and 5 hospitality centres.
